Established in 2008, in the heart of New Panvel suburb of Navi Mumbai, NSSEH has come a long way in establishing itself as one of the leading and dependable eye care provider in the area. The hospital, in its present form, provides everything related to eye care under one roof, with experienced consultants for cataract, refractive, glaucoma, retina, cornea and oculoplasty specialities, as well as well-trained, front desk and back office staff-providing the perfect support system for managing the hospital successfully.

The mission of NSSEH is to be a centre of quality and affordable eye care, accessible to all section of the society and delivered with the almost care and compassion and to alleviate human suffering and discomfort to the maximum possible.


We, at NSSEH, take pride in the quality of our clinical assessments – which is perfect to a fault, and the latest in diagnostic equipments, to augment the expertise of our clinical professionals. We have some of the best optometrists, who carry out complete vision assessment and spectacle and contact lens corrections, as well as determine certain vital parameters related to the eye like corneal curvature, corneal thickness, and intraocular lens power calculations etc. Our operation theatre assistants are well-experienced in assisting in all types of intraocular and extra ocular surgeries and have maintained a totally aseptic and infection-free operative setup since last many years. The NSSEH, through its charitable wing the Navdrushti seva Sansthan, has conducted many free eye camps and thousands of free cataract surgeries, across Raigad and Thane districts, and also conducts vocational courses like Diploma in Ophthalmic Techniques, through the Navdrushi School of Optometry for past 10 years. The sanstha, with technical support from NSSEH, managed five peripheral eye care centers in remote villages around Panvel and provided free eye treatment to poor villagers.

Our operation theatre is well equipped with the latest phacoemulsification machines from Visalis (Carl Zeiss Germany). Also we have advanced operating microscope from Takagi (Japan) and vitrectomy system for vitreoretinal surgeries. Our modular operation theatre is well insulated from outside temperature and humidity variations and has the latest air sterilizing units and UV filters. The concealed electrical cables and PVC claddings provide a dust-free and corrosion-resistant surface. The motorized operating table and surgeons chair enable comfortable surgical experience to even people with severe spinal deformities. NSSEH also provides ambulance support for severely immobilized patients and cardiac ambulance support in case of life-threatening emergencies. Routine pre-operative blood and urine tests for the purpose of medical fitness are provided to NSSEH at very concessional rates through our collaborating nearby pathological laboratories.

The passion for Medicine was there since childhood days and it was not long before he silently slipped into the white apron in 1987. After a meritorious under graduate and postgraduate education from reputed colleges, he worked under the tutorship of some of the leading eye surgeons of India like Dr. N.S.D. Raju, Late Dr. Yogesh Desai, Dr. Suhas Haldipurkar, etc. Worked as consultant ophthalmologist at some of the reputed hospitals at Kochi, Kerala, like Kochi Refineries, Indo - American Brain and Spine Center etc. Underwent short term training in glaucoma and paediatric ophthalmology at L.V. Prasad Eye Institute, Hyderabad and Shankara Netralaya, Chennai, respectively. Having gained sufficient clinical experience, finally started his own Nair Super Speciality Eye Hospital at New Panvel, Navi Mumbai in 2008, where he put his dream of serving the poor to fruition. He started off by forming an NGO, the Navdrushti Seva Santha, which became the charitable wing of NSSEH and formed 5 rural eye care centers in remote villages in Panvel and Pen talukas,in 2008. Through these centres, he performed numerous cataract surgeries for the poor and the tribals. Serving the poor of the country was always his passion, and that is reflected in the hundreds of free eye camps he has conducted till date. Also, to further his passion for teaching , he started the " Navdrushti School of Optometry" in 2008, where in Diploma and Certificate courses in Optometry are conducted. Till date, many optometrists have passed out of this college and made successful careers in reputed hospitals. Over the years, he has made Nair Super Speciality Eye Hospital into a center of excellence in eye care, combining technological advancements with time tested; orthodox treatment methods to give the best possible treatment outcomes to his patients. With a hard working team of specialist doctors and para – medics, he has made NSSEH as one of the best centres for eye care, in the western part of the country.

VOLUNTEER SERVICES - Philanthropic individuals can join us in our charitable services by arranging free eye checkup camps or free eye surgeries for poor villagers or slum dwellers. Volunteers can even perform mass screening in their own communities for visual problems and direct to us for further management. Professionals with special skills can contribute by conducting training sessions for the hospital staff and optometry students. Also, volunteers proficient in English language can help by tutoring our optometry students in English language. All volunteers need to register with us with names and contact details so that their services may be called upon as and when required.
AWARDS AND ACCOLADES
1. NSSEH was awarded the ASNH certification (Accreditation Standards for Nursing Homes) in 2012 for maintaining acceptable standards in eye care.
2. Dr. Santosh Nair and NSSEH was awarded the "Champion of Champion" trophy for the year 2015 by Lion's Club of Navi Mumbai Champion for exemplary charitable eye care work.
3. Dr. Santosh Nair was awarded the "Karnala Bhushan" award for the year 2015 for outstanding social work in eye care delivery to the poor sections of society.
4. NSSEH was one of the founder member of FMPA (Fair medical practitioner's association) on 2nd April 2017 a forum for promoting fair and ethical medical practice in the society.
